Welcome to my blog. I am Call-Guy, so named because I have spent more time than I care to admit at the sharp-end of the call-centre industry. Maybe you’re one of the many thousands of people who has spoken to me, shouted or screamed at me? We’ll probably never know.

My aim in this blog is to bitch about my job, but whilst doing it to explore the wider issues around the call-centre business. Maybe you work in a call centre too or you have a friend who does, or you’re just interested in the hidden world at the other end of the line. If you fall into any of these categories feel free to leave any comments or drop me a line.

  1. I work as a debt collector. Not quite a call centre gal but I get what your work is like. I think I may actually get shouted at more then you. No one likes hearing they have to pay

  2. Hi,
Just read through the entire blog and would like to thank you for the time and effort 🙂
Resigned today after 2 months in a call centre and will never under any circumstances work in one again.

    • Hey,

Thanks for your message I really appreciate the feedback and hope you enjoyed reading.

Well done on escaping the call centre too. Far better to get out before it sucks you in and the next thing you know a significant chunk of your working life has passed by!

    • @ Braincritic You may had a bad days at your call center but i am working in call centers from 8 years now and even i dont like that much but i add some fun to it and make it full on.

  3. What a cool looking blog, I have just started working for an Australian Company that designs, manufactures and distributes high quality headset products for call centres. Being new to the industry I wanted to find out if there was a “Call Centre Blog” and came across your blog. I look forward to reading through your posts and discovering more about the industry.

  4. Started in the field when I was 16 hahaha am 26 now have been an on and off agent, but it feels so nice to read from other’s experiences!! It is definitely a unique and very challenging career… specially when English is not your first language.

  5. Hi 🙂
Just found your blog & I’m really enjoying reading through it.
I have worked at a few different call centers since 2005. I know–I cant believe it either!!!
I can relate to so much of what you wrote on here. Its funny & very very true.
I really hope to change jobs soon, I really cant do the call center thing much longer. In the area I live its hard, not much in the way of jobs but so many of these dang call centers. I’ve worked at 3 different ones & there’s plenty more in this area besides those.
I do art & photography in my spare time & that’s what I really want to focus on. Check out my website: http://perfectway76.wix.com/myportfolio

    • Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your comments. It’s always good to hear the experiences of others from the call centre. Really great pictures by the way – I love the urban pictures and the Skywheel. It just brings it home to me that in my time in the call centre I’ve met so many talented people who really deserve more. At almost 10 years I’d say you’ve done your call centre time so it’s definitely time to follow your dreams!

  6. Hi, its a bit like being in the trenches during the war – I have worked in call centres on helplines and various others – its hell – the modern coal mine – the job is punititve – I am guessing you are in the US I am in the UK – here’s to solidarity among the headsets – This is me – its all drawings – http://advisorpod4.blogspot.co.uk/
Best to you Advisor Pod 4

    • Brilliant! The very first picture I saw resonated straight away. I used to always see potential new clients walking by, being ushered into the office for the sandwiches-on-a-tray treatment. Love the managers as Daleks too – my views on management are very clear on here and it seems we share them.

  7. Hi CG, RJ Rivera, I’ve been with the industry for over a decade now. I really love your posts. Is it OK if I do a guest post in your blog? Thanks in advance and more power!
